Mind Your Business: Discovering the Powerful Impact of a Renewed Mind

October 18, 2011 @ 11:54 pm
posted by Anita Kirkman

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind… ~ Romans 12:2

I remember when I was in high school; one of my teachers’ criticisms of my writing embedded itself so deep in my subconscious that it followed me into adulthood. Ever since that experience in high school I’d been feeding myself the message that “Anita, your writing is only average and you can’t really write”.   So with that message ringing loud and clear between my ears, I avoided writing like the plague.  I mean if there was a blank piece of paper in front of me that I was to write on about something, suddenly I would find myself paralyzed and unable to draw anything in mind except a blank!

We all get millions of messages every day that affect our life’s decisions. Some of these messages hit our subconscious and unbeknownst to us; they wedge themselves between our dreams and our ability to fulfill those dreams.

Since starting my business, I had to come face to face with those thoughts that were keeping me stuck; otherwise I would never realize the success God provisioned for me. This transformation called for me to renew my mind and create a pattern of thought that allowed me to move and to continue to move forward into my destiny.

What does it mean to have a renewed mind?
A renewed mind is a total renovation of the way you think. Having a renewed mind means you no longer have thoughts that don’t serve you in your journey to success.  Thinking is so important because that is where everything begins…success or failure.   If you want real success, pay close attention to not only what you think but how you think, and most importantly…what influences your thoughts.

Why is it important to have a renewed mind?
A renewed mind is the key to sustained change and real transformation. Transformation starts between your ears. Before you take any action, you THINK about it, even if you only think about it for a second, there is a thought that influences an action.  Sometimes, the thought can influence inaction.  For example, your decision to not follow up with prospects you met at a networking event started out with you thinking about how much you did not want to do it and how much you don’t want someone to feel like you are being a pest.

Many times our action on inaction is motivated by fearful thoughts, like in the example above.  Another example, my high school teacher’s criticism created a fear based thought pattern in my mind that I sucked at writing. This fear would freeze my ability to act and move forward because the perception was, “what if others agree?”, so I decided that I hate writing and I was not going to ever do it (oh but, God, had other plans for that decision)!!

How can you get a renewed mind and begin to walk into your destiny?
The way you think determines your destiny in life.  I am happy to report that after learning and applying the following principles to fighting negative thoughts, I have proven my high school teacher wrong and reshaped my subconscious.  Although writing is not my favorite thing to do in the world (I’d much rather speak), I have successfully written some amazing material when I’ve purposed my mind to do so.

Below I share with you five principles I have used and continue to use to keep my mind renewed.
  1. Daily Walk in the Word of God (Galatians 5:16). As you take on God’s mindset, then you will take on His actions that will lead you to your success.
  2. Be careful of what influences your thoughts, like what you watch, read, hear and who you hang around.
  3. Take every thought captive. When you have negative “I can’t do…” thoughts, take them captive immediately and rebut them by saying aloud “I can do…” or “It’s important that I do…”.
  4. Replace carnal thoughts with the Word of God. Positive affirmations are designed to change a thought, so be sure to use them. You can get some affirmations based on God’s Word to get you started by clicking this link: http://www.myempoweringaffirmations.com/
  5. Claim and believe the promises of God. Activate God’s promise of abundance for your life with your faith. Believe that you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you.

Take inspired action to renew your mind today and watch your life and confidence change dramatically.

Out Of the Box Methods for Building Self Confidence

posted by Anita Kirkman

Self-confidence is essential for not only achieving the type of business you desire but also for enjoying it. When you have good self-confidence, not only will you thrive in your role as an entrepreneur, you’ll also attract customers. People want to work with businesses they believe in and when you believe in yourself, they’ll have faith in you too.

So how do you build your self-confidence?

Well, there are a number of ways. However, instead of focusing on the usual and common methods for building self-confidence, let’s take a look at a few outside the box, or unique, ways to boost it.

#1 Pat Yourself on the Back When You Make Mistakes

Most often when we make mistakes we chastise ourselves. We call ourselves stupid or inadequate. Instead of tapping into these very negative and confidence reducing habits, turn it around. Celebrate your mistakes. Better yet, what if you believed that there was no such thing as a mistake?  They are only learning opportunities.

Think about it, when do you determine something is a mistake? It’s usually after the fact, after something did not turn out as expected.  How many of us purposely set out to make a mistake? We don’t!  So instead of beating yourself up, the next time you have a “learning opportunity”, pat yourself on the back and say “well, I just learned what NOT to do!!”.

#2 Act Like You Know or Act as if.

Studies have shown that simple things like posture can affect how confident you feel. Even if you are not feeling confident, position your body in state that makes you feel confident.  Think about a time when you were really on top of your game, you brought you ‘A’ game.  How were you standing?  How were you sitting?  What gestures were your hands making?  What facial expressions did you display?  Position your physical body in that same and way as you think about that time and feel that confident mood.  Use that same body language to influence your mood.  As your body gets into position, you’ll begin to feel the change. You’ll begin to feel more confident. Try it right now.  Position your body physically in your ‘A’ game state and literally feel what it was like to be on top.  How does that affect your mood, how confident are you feeling now?

Whenever you’re feeling less than confident about your business, your life or your relationships, change your posture and use that to help boost your self-confidence.

#3 Create a Habit of Success

How big are your goals? For many people their goals are huge. They want to be millionaires or they want to drive big cars and live in mansions. While these goals are wonderful, they can take time to achieve. In that time it’s a bit too easy to lose confidence in yourself. Instead, set smaller and reasonable goals that you can achieve right away and create a habit of success. For example, if you’re on your way to a large goal of a million dollars, start with a daily, weekly or monthly goal that you can achieve. Achieve it and celebrate. Regular success helps you begin to feel like a successful and confident person. It also helps you achieve those large goals much faster.

Affirmations, visualization and focusing on tasks that you’re good at are all great ways to build self-confidence. Combine those tried and true tactics with a few out of the box methods and enjoy your newfound self-confidence and your newfound YOU!!

Too many people overvalue what they are not, and undervalue what they are.
~ Malcolm S. Forbes quotes

Do you fall into this category?

Many people make the mistake of  looking at the success of others and assuming they have some mystical ability, a magic formula for success, and/or they must be able to fearlessly communicate and that is why they are successful.  The truth is…these people have trepidations just like you do.

The difference? They make their fears work for them instead of getting trapped in them. People who are most successful, understand that success or failure starts in the mind.  How we view ourselves and the world around us contributes greatly to whether or not we achieve success. Change the way you view yourself and you can change your life!

Here are 5 keys to unlocking a powerful confidence that fuels the success of your life and business…

1.    Unlock Your Profitable Confidence: Without confidence you can only go so far and achieve so much. In order to find your profit attracting confidence you must stretch yourself to your fullest potential. If there is something that scares you, do it afraid. You will soon find yourself in a new and powerful place that commands.

2.    Unlock Your Know and Filter OUT the Noise: Invest in yourself and your vision and filter out the critics. The more you know about your vision, the more centered and confident you’ll be in your direction. Don’t be discouraged by nay sayers who can’t see your vision. Remember, people like Bill Gates and Oprah did not get to where they are by playing small and by the “rules”. They believed in themselves, got educated and stepped out in the confidence that they could make a huge impact in the world and so can you!

3.    Be Aggressively Curious: One of the best ways to ease anxiety while talking with and networking with others, is to take the focus off of you and apply it to the other person. People love to talk about themselves. Ask them about who they are, what they do, their family etc… Just think about how interesting you feel when someone gets curious about who you are.

4.    Conquer Your Inner Gremlin: Our biggest obstacles don’t come from what others say about us and our abilities, but the negative lies we tell ourselves about who we are and what we can accomplish. A gremlin is your “inner critic” it’s an emotionally charged statement that typically begins with “I”. It sounds like “I can never be wealthy” or “I’m not good enough”. Because of the emotional charge behind these types of statements, it keeps you from creating what you want in your life.

5.    Treat Yourself Well: In the day to day grind to make it happen, don’t neglect your health and peace of mind. Make time to pamper yourself and show yourself how special you really are! Honor your mind, body and spirit. Taking time for self care allows you to re-energize and get back to your work refreshed and with a renewed confidence.

If you are not progressing in your life or business in the way you would like, if there are things you know you need to do to progress and you aren’t doing them, remember to strengthen your confidence using these keys to help unlock a flow of cash, clients, and success into your business and life .
